This is more of a "is this possible" question than anything, but...

I don't know about the general populace, but I use the Active Topics. All the time. In fact my bookmark leads to the Active Topics page rather than the forum index. I love Active Topics. But I got to thinking of a recent potential concern.

Obviously, once Dark Dawn arrives, there'll be a no-spoiler policy regarding it, probably a very strict one. Keep all GSDS topics in the correct forum and stuff. Personally I probably won't be playing through it particularily quickly, let alone in a few days like I'm sure some of us will. So if anyone posts a topic titled "OMG DRAGON ALEX WAS SUCH A PUSHOVER" or whatever, bam, I'll see it on the Active Topics even if I try to avoid that forum completely. Not that I'm saying anybody here is dumb enough to name a topic with a blatant spoiler, but if all goes to plan then there'll be new members and, if things go very well, n00b members.

For me to avoid this potential danger I can only think of not using Active Topics anymore. But browsing EVERY SINGLE FORUM I care about is a big pain in the ass, so I'm wondering if anyone knows or can discover any phpbb magic that allows users to disable specific forums for Active Topics or something along those lines, because that would be awesome. I do believe there is a feature that allows admins to disable certain forums from being displayed, but that becomes universal for all users. Similarly I believe that being unable to access a particular subforum will prevent that user / user group from seeing any topics inside in Active Topics, but it would be strange to have a "haven't finished GSDS" user group and annoying for moderators to move users to and from said group when they do finish the game.

As some of you know I take great offense to having anything spoiled for me, even inadvertantly / accidentally and take every opportunity to safeguard against it so a feature like this would be insanely awesome for that purpose.

So to anyone who knows their phpbb stuff... is such a feature possible?

tl;dr version
Can a forum have a feature allowing users to select which forums will display in their Active Topics and which forums will not?

Not as far as I know, i think it's possible to make a given forum not turn up in active topics for anyone, but I don't think that's a good idea as it would confuse newbies and make it a pain for those who do want read those topics. I think a rule regarding spoilers in topic titles should be in place, if there isn't one already, but short of that I'm not sure there's much more we can do.
Besides I don't think it's such a bad thing to be made to search through areas individually, you'll know if there are new messages based on if the buttons are faded out or not, it's hardly the end of the world

Well you know I'm pretty lazy and just clicking my bookmark button once to see everything new is easier than clicking clicking on each forum of interest.

And if I go to Golden Sun forum right now there's an "unread post" topic whose last post was in Sept. 2009. XD

Well I didn't have my hopes up, I'll have to figure something out when the time comes.
